Request to Receive Letter Grade(s) for Spring 2020
Due to the disruption caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College developed a w Grading Policy for the Spring 2020 semester only. Under this policy students will be graded using a Pass/Incomplete grading scale unless they request letter grades using this form. This form is due to the Office of the Registrar by 5:00 pm on May 4, 2020.
What this means:
- Instead of using individual letter grades, a P (passing) will be posted to a student’s transcript as the final course grade for all grades A through D-. Receiving a “P” will have no effect on a student’s GPA.
- An I (incomplete) will be posted for any courses in which a student has a failing final grade so that the student may have the opportunity to successfully complete those courses.
- All coursework needed to convert any I (incomplete) grade posted under this emergency policy to a P or letter grade (by student choice) will need to be completed by the end of fall term (Dec. 2020).
- Students preferring letter grades instead of Pass/Incomplete may elect to do so, on a course by course basis, by completing this form.
All students must consult with and get the approval of their advisor before requesting letter grades for the spring 2020 term. Any student interested in implications to their financial aid should contact email@example.com. Student Athletes should discuss with their coaches and advisors whether they should use the Pass/Incomplete option before making their decision. CCP students should check with their guidance counselor before taking advantage of using Pass/Incomplete or Letter grades.
EXCEPTIONS: Students in Nursing and Education will be receiving letter grades in their NUR and EDU courses. Those students should discuss with their advisor any other courses for which they need to receive letter grades and complete this form for those courses.
Instructions: Student should complete this form online, save, and email it to their advisor. Advisor should review it and, if
approved, sign it. Either the student or advisor can return the completed form to the Office of the Registrar by mail, email
(preferred), or in person.

As you explore these pages and come to know more about our teaching and learning, you will see why Rio Grande is a university where students thrive.
The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is a unique partnership between a public community college and a four-year comprehensive university. Deeply rooted in Appalachian history, both institutions are committed to encouraging life-long learning, personal and professional growth, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and effective written and oral communication skills to students from the southeastern Ohio area, the state, the nation, and the world. Our unique partnership enables eligible students to experience the value-added educational experiences of a private university in a cost-effective manner not typically available at these institutions. We seek to distinguish ourselves through innovative education and memorable student experiences. We are committed to enhancing the academic climate of the university through supporting, recognizing, and celebrating the scholarship and creative endeavors of students both inside and outside the classroom.
We offer more than 60 associate, bachelor, and graduate programs of study that reflect the diversity and creativity of our faculty and students. Our academic programs range from highly respected technical and professional programs in allied health, fine woodworking, nursing, education, business, and many others to high quality programs within the liberal arts and sciences, such as chemistry and wildlife conservation. With over 2,300 graduate and undergraduate students, we are able to successfully blend personal direction and small classes associated with smaller schools with the academic opportunities of a larger university.
