The Residence Requirement for a degree is the minimum number of semester hours a student must take at the University of Rio Grande. The intent of this policy is to provide adequate contact with the University of Rio Grande and its faculty for each student who is awarded a degree. Rio Grande courses taken at off-campus sites or via distance learning meet the intent of this requirement.
- A candidate for an associate degree must take a minimum of 15 of the last 18 hours and at least two courses in the area of concentration at the University of Rio Grande.
- A candidate for a bachelor degree must take a minimum of 30 of the last 36 hours at the University of Rio Grande. This requirement also includes at least 18 hours in the major at Rio Grande and 6 hours in the minor, if applicable.
- A candidate for the master’s degree must complete a minimum of 50% of the required coursework registered through the University of Rio Grande. This coursework can be a combination of Internet courses, classroom courses, and/or travel related courses. The student’s assigned advisor/mentor will officially confirm that the student has accomplished the “adequate contact” as required by the Residence Requirements.
