The University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College Emerson E. Evans School of Business hosted its annual awards banquet to honor the exceptional academic achievements of its students.

The University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College Emerson E. Evans School of Business is proud to announce its award winners for the 2017-2018 academic year. The school’s faculty and staff hosted an awards banquet to honor these students’ exceptional academic achievements. Emerson E. Evans School of Business Co-Chair Jason Winters said he is proud of these students for going above and beyond in their studies and enjoys getting to share their success with them and their families at the banquet.

“The awards banquet give the school of business’s faculty an opportunity to publicly recognize our outstanding students from both the associate and bachelor’s degree programs,” Winters said. “It also gives the student’s parents an opportunity to meet the faculty that have been a part of their son’s or daughter’s life for the past 2 or 4 years. It is always a special time of celebration that we all cherish.”

Asher Peck, a business major through the College Credit Plus (CCP) program, is the winner of this year’s Outstanding Associate Degree award at the banquet. Peck, a home-schooled student from Albany, received his associate degree in business management this past Saturday with a 4.0 GPA. He said he is honored to be recognized and is grateful for the opportunities he has experienced already through the school of business.

“This program has been a great learning experience, and I feel I’ve grown a lot as a person through it. I chose Rio for the CCP program because it was a smaller campus close to home. I’d never been in a classroom setting before, so the smaller class sizes were a great fit for me,” Peck said. “Being selected for this award is exciting because I’ve put a lot of hard work into my classes. I think having these awards for the students is important because it shows the faculty recognize the effort and dedication of their students. ”

Award winners for the 2017-2018 academic year are Asher Peck, Outstanding Associate Degree; Kylie Caudill, Outstanding Bachelor Degree; Collin Powers and Charlotte Norvell, Bachelor Degree Business Field Test; Brian Perkins and Kenneth Council, Business Simulation Competition; and Nichole Robinson, Meigs Campus Award.
