[Women’s Basketball] RedStorm women roll to record-setting win

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Nine days after suffering their first loss of the season, the University of Rio Grande women's basketball rebounded in record-setting fashion.
    The 18th-ranked RedStorm set single-game program records for both points and assists in a 129-68 rout of Miami University-Hamilton, Thursday night, in non-conference action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
    Rio Grande improved to 16-1 with the victory.
    The Harriers, who lost for a third straight time, slipped to 4-14 with the loss.

[Men’s Basketball] Rio men start fast, hold off UPike

    PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Rio Grande bolted to a 17-4 lead to begin the game and then held on down the stretch to post a 59-52 win over the University of Pikeville, Thursday afternoon, in non-conference men's basketball action at UPike Gym.
    The RedStorm improved to 7-8 with the victory and halted a three-game losing slide in the process.
    The Bears, who were receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches' Top 25 poll, lost for just the third time in 14 outings.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – With the Christmas holiday just over one day away, there were “Lords a leapin'” inside the Newt Oliver Arena on Thursday afternoon.
    Unfortunately for the RedStorm, it was Lourdes University leaping to a sixth straight victory.
    The visiting Gray Wolves erased an eight-point first half deficit with a 24-6 run that fueled an eventual 70-53 non-conference triumph over Rio Grande.
    Lourdes, a member of the NAIA Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference located in Sylvania, Ohio, upped its season record to 11-3 with the win.
    Rio Grande suffered a third straight loss and dipped to 6-8.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – They say that all good things must come to an end.
    Unfortunately, the sentiment of the oft-used adage includes the perfect start to the 2021-22 season for the University of Rio Grande women's basketball team.
    The University of Pikeville used a 12-0 run to erase a seven-point second half deficit and then old down the stretch to post a 79-76 win over the RedStorm, Tuesday afternoon, in non-conference play at the Newt Oliver Arena.
    The Bears, who had dropped a pair of narrow decisions in two previous meetings with ranked foes, evened their overall mark at 6-6.
    Rio Grande, which entered the game ranked 18th in the latest NAIA coaches' poll, slipped to 15-1 with the loss.

    FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech used a 24-4 run that bridged the final 4:45 of the first half and the first 4:23 of the second half to break a 19-all tie and eventually post a 64-47 win over the University of Rio Grande in non-conference men's basketball action, Monday afternoon, at the Schaefer Center.
    The host Warriors won for the 12th time in 17 outings.
    The RedStorm slipped below the .500 mark for the season, falling to 6-7 overall.

[Men’s Basketball] Racers score late to nip Rio men

    LIMA, Ohio – For the University of Rio Grande men's basketball team, Saturday afternoon's meeting with the University of Northwestern Ohio provided a look at two constants of the RedStorm's season to this point.
    First, was a grit and grind attitude that helped head coach Ryan Arrowood's squad erase a 14-point second half deficit.
    The other was an inconsistent shooting touch at the free throw line which, when all was said and done, hindered the ability to seal a come-from-behind road win.
