It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dr. Barry M. Dorsey, who served as the 18th President of the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande
Community College from July 1991-January 2006. He was one of the longest-serving presidents in Rio’s history.
During his tenure, Rio Grande successfully completed its most significant capital campaign, “Lighting the Way”, began 50 new academic programs, and enrollment increased by nearly 30%. Dr. Dorsey also saw 13 major construction/renovation projects occurred including Bob Evans Farms Hall, McKenzie Hall, and the Alumni Memorial Bell Tower. The Meigs Center and The Madog Center for Welsh Studies were also established during his time at Rio.
Often seen out on campus attending nearly every student function, activity, or game, Dr. Dorsey made it a point to know everyone. Before he left, he established a scholarship awarded annually to a full-time Rio Student and awarded based on financial need and academic achievement.
Please share memories and photos of Dr. Dorsey. Friends, Alumni, and supporters of Rio Grande wishing to contribute to his scholarship may give to his fund.
