A survey course examining the role of the visual arts from a number of cultural perspectives, or “functions of art”. This course will also study the structure and design components of art, as well as the various media and techniques used to create it. Throughout the semester, there will be a survey of a selection of art objects, taking into account the cultural, historical, political, religious, and social forces that influence artistic production. This course is intended for non-majors. Art majors will cover these topics in other courses. Prerequisites: None. Fall/Spring
