FAQs

May I request more rain tickets?

Tickets are only required should the ceremony be moved indoors to Lyne Center. Due to fire code safety regulations, each graduate is issued a maximum of 4 rain tickets ONLY. Requests for additional or replacement tickets (if lost) will not be accepted. Please make sure to keep the tickets you receive with your cap and gown in a safe place.

Children age 2 and under will not be required to have a ticket for entry.
Knowing that you may have more than four guests in attendance, we provide additional seating for guests in either Bob Evans Farms Hall Room 118 or the Berry Fine & Performing Arts Theater auditorium, where the ceremony will be simulcast.

Graduates may make arrangements amongst themselves to share/donate unused tickets, but the university will not oversee such arrangements.

May I decorate my cap?

While the university does not condone decorating academic regalia, if you choose to do so, it must be tasteful and respectful. The university reserves the right to issue a new cap should the decoration be deemed offensive or inappropriate.

How do I qualify for honor cords?

Academic honor cords are issued by the Registrar’s Office and are based on the non-rounded cumulative grade point average at the end of the Fall 2021 semester. Graduates with a GPA of 3.500 and higher will receive cords in their cap & gown package.

What events are mandatory?

While attendance is not mandatory for the Grande Finale, Career Fair, or Commencement Practice, graduates are strongly encouraged to participate in these activities as vital information and resources will be readily available in one location.

Should you wish not to participate in Commencement, you must receive permission from the Registrar, Oliva Bevan (obevan@rio.edu), and will graduate in absentia.
