Program Major: Social Work
Have you found success with your degree: Yes, after I graduated in December of 2017. Being freshly out of college I was not sure what I wanted to do with my degree. I heard about there being a job opening at Meigs County Children Services, and I went for it. I have been employed at the agency for a little over a year now. I am thankful to have found a job so close to home.
Have you returned to school to further your degree: At the moment I am currently not enrolled in school, however I have put a lot of thought into returning to get my MSW. As of right now it just isn’t the right timing. However, it is a goal of mine that I would like to accomplish soon.
Who were your influences: My kids Caiden and Avamae are two of my biggest influences, if it wasn’t for them then I wouldn’t be the where I am today. Completing school and being a mom of two was not an easy task by any means, but I did it. WE DID IT. Making sure the needs of my kids were met before I could begin my school work ended up turning into sleepless nights of making sure I got everything completed for school. Another influence of mine is my big brother Weston Counts. He was and still is my biggest support system. He was always there to give me the “lectures” that I needed when I just wanted to give up. He supported me through it all and never once doubted me.
Memorable story at Rio: A memorable story from Rio would have to be when the Social Work Program put together a 25th Anniversary Social Work reception for The Rio Grande Social Work Program. It was memorable for me because it was the first time that it had ever been done. Being able to connect with past students who survived Professor Dovyak was very interesting and fun. It was a good networking experience to combine future and past Rio Grande Social Workers.
