Mission

The mission of the Alumni Association of the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College shall be to support the Rio mission by developing and maintaining strong, lifelong relationships between the alumni body and Rio.

Awards & Recognition

After graduation, Rio alumni head out into the world to make a difference — in their fields, in their communities and in the lives of others. The University is pleased to honor their achievements with a variety of awards.

Jim Marshall Veteran of the Year Award

The Jim Marshall Veteran of the Year Award seeks to recognize those who have worn the uniform of this Nation’s Armed Forces, performed their military duties, and then continued to contribute to their community, state, and nation in an exemplary manner. These outstanding contributions may, for example, be in the areas of professional, civic, Veterans’ advocacy, public service, or significant contributions over the life of the nominee.

We award this scholarship each spring. The scholarship will be applied during the fall term. Deadline is February 1 of each year.

Volunteer Group

Would you like to be a guest speaker on our campus? What about help plan an Alumni function? Or maybe you want to help us engage through social media? You may even find yourself wanting to give back to the University of Rio Grande through your time, talents, and special skillsets. If so, then we are looking for you!

The University of Rio Grande Alumni Association currently looking for ways our alumni (you) can engage with current students and the University on a more personal level.

Below we have posted several volunteer positions we are seeking and a job description of each. If you feel you meet these qualifications, and would like to apply for a volunteer position, please submit a resume and cover letter,  Alumni Relations – alumni@rio.edu

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Job Description – This encompasses all types of facilitated learning opportunities including resume development, job interview skills, mentoring, counseling, proof reading, and providing informal learning opportunities to students

SPEAKER SERIES

Job Description – We are searching for those individuals who would like to speak to a classroom or group of students. Share your expertise in your field or on a topic. Work with faculty on creating a classroom session, or sched

MARKETING/SOCIAL MEDIA

Job Description – We are looking for volunteers ready to promote the University through social media outlets. We need those willing to share our posts on their personal/professional pages to create more online engagement for our former and current students

EVENT PLANNING/ACTIVITIES

Job Description – Help us manage a project such as a meeting, class reunion, ceremony or other campus activities. Also looking for those willing to be in charge of off campus alumni activities in their current area

FUNDRAISING/STEWARDSHIPS

Job Description – Participate in several of our campus events to promote philanthropy giving within our Alumni Association. Event participation would be encouraged for #GivingTuesday, our annual Phonathon, and possible Thank-a-thon.

The Alumni Association

All students of the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College become members of the Alumni Association automatically and immediately upon their graduation from Rio Grande. Students who have attended Rio Grande and successfully completed academically one quarter or semester of coursework may enter the Association by making this request to the Office of Alumni Relations.

The Association attempts to promote the welfare of the institution, and the perpetuation of friendships and relationships formed among its members, while at school and after graduation. The Association welcomes all graduates, former students, and other friends of the University at its events and functions.
