College Credit Plus
What is College Credit Plus (CCP)?
Ohio’s College Credit Plus Program can help a student earn college and high school credit at the same time by taking college courses at a desired college or university. The purpose of this program is to provide a wide variety of course options for 7-12 graders who are college ready. Taking a college course from the Rio Grande Community College is free, which means no cost for tuition, books, or fees.

What are the Benefits of College Credit Plus?
College ready students can earn college credit for FREE, while still in high school.
Successful completion of a three or more credit hour college course converts to 1 Carnegie unit at the high school.
Students have the potential to earn an associate’s degree or certificate at Rio Grande.
Public school students have the opportunity to earn up to a max of 30 credit hours per year and 120 credits total. Non-public and homeschool students’ credits are determined by the state based on available funding.
Students may take courses on campus, online, or at their high school (if this option is available).
How Do Public School Students Apply for College Credit Plus at Rio Grande?
- Attend a College Credit Plus information session with your parent/guardian at your local high school or at Rio Grande.
- Complete Letter of Intent and submit to your guidance counselor by April 1, 2019.
- Complete a Rio Grande College Credit Plus Application. Mail the application, along with a transcript by the desired start term.

How Do Non-Public and Homeschool Students Apply?
- Attend a College Credit Plus information meeting with your parent/guardian at Rio Grande.
- Create a OHID account. Visit Department of Education to learn more.
- Complete Letter of Intent and submit to the OHID account by April 1.
- Complete a Rio Grande College Credit Plus Application. Mail the application, along with a transcript by the desired start term) to:

- Upload your acceptance letter from Rio Grande to your OHID account. Funding decisions will be made by the state. You will be notified of your funding through your OHID account.
Important Dates
Attending an information session at your local high school, please check with your guidance counselor for the scheduled date. If you are unavailable for your high school information meeting, opportunities to attend an information session at Rio Grande will be offered.
Course Eligibility Rule
General Program Information Regarding Course Eligibility Rule OAC 3333-1—65-12
“First 15” Rule: Students must complete 15 credit hours in the Level I before advancing to Level II courses. Those courses include:
- Transferrable courses: Ohio Transfer Module (OTM), Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG), Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAG)
- Courses in anatomy, physiology, computer science, information technology, or foreign language, including American Sign Language (ASL)
- 15 credit hour or 30 credit hour model pathway course
- Study skills, academic, or career success skills course
- Technical cerficate course
- Internship course
- Chancellor may approve other courses on an annual basis.
Non-allowable courses in College Credit Plus:

Remedial course and Sectarian religion course

Physical education course
-
Study abroad courses
-
Courses with fees that exceed the amount set by the Chancellor

One-on one private instruction courses

P/F or S/U grades (unless the course is an internship course or is a transferable course for all students enrolled)
Level II
Any other college course that is not listed on a Level I course.
